Who We Are

Robert Wilder, J.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Rob Wilder is Co-Founder of the WilderHill Clean Energy Index® (ECO), the first & leading Index on Wall Street for the clean energy sector. He is Founder and CEO of WilderShares that owns the Index, and Chairs the Index Committee. Rob holds a Ph.D. from University of California Santa Barbara and a Law Degree from University of San Diego. In addition Dr. Wilder often Lectures at Universities around the world.

Rob is Co-Founder of WilderHill New Energy Global Innovation Index (NEX); he is a Partner in WilderHill New Energy Finance. He is Founder of the WilderHill Progressive Energy Index (WHPRO); and Founder of the Wilder NASDAQ Global Energy Efficient Transport Index (HAUL).

Dr. Wilder is a Fulbright Senior Specialist, and was a Fulbright Fellow. He is a Member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law, and enjoys speaking on eco-entrepreneurship internationally such as at Oxford University in England, at Gaziantep University in Turkey, Zadar University in Croatia, Canterbury University in New Zealand, Georgetown University in the U.S., and worldwide as a Professor with Semester at Sea by University of Virginia. He's served many years as a volunteer such as Board Member and Interim Executive Director at Center for Sustainable Energy, Trustee for Society for Conservation Biology, on Director's Cabinet at Scripps Inst. of Oceanography, and national Board of the Sierra Club among other positions.

Dr. Wilder is author of the Book, Listening to the Sea that links marine biodiversity to smart cost-effective energy technologies that prevent pollution in the first place. He is published widely such as in National Academy of Sciences Press, Nature, Engineering News-Record, Institutional Investor, American Society of Civil Engineers Press, UCLA Journal of Environmental Law & Policy, Journal of Alternative Investments, Virginia Journal of International Law, University of Chicago Press, and elsewhere.

His early awards include an American Assn. for Advancement of Science AAAS/EPA Fellowship in Environmental Science & Technology in the EPA Headquarters in Washington D.C.; a California Sea Grant Fellowship in the State Legislature, a Scripps UCSD Ph.D. Dissertation Fellowship, and he was recipient of the National Academy of Sciences Young Investigator Award (twice). He has been a faculty member at the University of California, and at the University of Massachusetts, and was previously with The Nature Conservancy.

He emphasizes preventing pollution in the first place & upstream integrated thinking - prevention rather than cure.

Interests include education in the public interest, eco-entrepreneurship for solar electric vehicles and innovation in transport & energy. His ECO Index and an independent tracker have received accolades. That tracker was named by Lipper® as a #1 Ranked Small Cap Core Fund for performance; ECO Index was called "the Dow Jones industrial average of global warming" by USA Today, and the tracker was called a "Best ETF". His work has been recognized with an "Outstanding Individual Achievement" Award, and after the launch of the independent tracker it was named a "Most Innovative New ETF Product in 2005".

Rob is originally from Baltimore, Maryland. He and his family reside in lovely Encinitas north of San Diego, California on a 1-acre site that's solar-powered with organic gardens, practical innovative eco-solutions including solar cars, renewables plus innovative energy storage and 2nd life advanced batteries.
